MAY 29 is a sculpture composed of the following elements

Trash Can
Guillotine
These are assembled on a stage in the centre of the gallery.The sculpture is illuminated by a fifth object, an aluminium lighting rig which surveils the work intensely.
The overall effect is both disconcertingly familiar and distant, vernacular, urban, but imbued with another intent. Despite its unlikely presence, the Guillotine too appears as a matter of fact, and oddly as if expected.The terminal identity of the Guillotine becomes the shared characteristic of all the objects.As is the case with much of Diamond Stingily’s work, these objects also function somehow as shadows of themselves, hovering above their condition, to one side of their own resemblance, different yet simultaneously identical to themselves.
They belong, in the words of the artist, to the category of the “Supermundane”.
